2022 Sealift Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

This remote, deep coast vineyard used to be an apple farm. A weather brick apple kiln serves as a reminder of the past. Sealift reminds us of nearby Hirsch, though it sits closer to (and in clear view of) the Peay Vineyard. The soils are sandy with fractured veins of shale resulting from all the seismic drama still unfolding in this young geologic zone. In 2022 these drought-concentrated clusters were half their normal size, and bursting with flavor. If you want to impress some dinner guests this holiday season, give a bottle a 30-minute decant and pour out this sappy, ruby elixir bursting with pomegranate, Kirsch, red plum, bay laurel, and violet pastilles.
