2021 Rose of Carignan, Mendocino County
The 2021 vintage will inspire some hyperbole. Lowest yields. Smallest clusters. Best-Ever. This 2021 Rosé is all of those things. If you have enjoyed our Rosé in years past, imagine the wine with more amplitude. The wine looks and feels electric. These miniaturized Carignan clusters were hand-harvested on the mornings of Sept 9 and Sept 11. The fruit was crushed and sent direct-to-press. No skin contact. We fermented in stainless steel tanks at cooler temps to preserve the aromatics. A naturally occurring malolactic fermentation eventually kicked off, but due to the wine's low pH, did not complete. As such we did a gentle cross-flow filtration to bottle. Simple winemaking in support of some very special grape material.
